2. Conjunctivitis:

Conjunctivitis is caused most commonly by infection from viruses or bacteria.  The sun, wind, pollution, detergents, or contact lens solution could also be a potential culprit for this. Pinkeye is the common name for conjunctivitis.

At the beginning, conjunctivitis is usually painless and does not adversely affect vision.  For patients with an existing dry eye condition, the symptoms often worsen. 

Conjunctivitis often causes swelling, itching, burning and redness of the conjunctiva – the white part or your eye.  Because conjunctivitis is caused by either viral (e.g. Ocular Herpes) or bacterial infections, this condition can often spread quickly from one person to another. Treatments for Conjunctivitis:

Most conjunctivitis symptoms will clear on their own within a few weeks.  With viral infections, it tends to move from one eye to the other.  There are no particular treatments for viral eye infections.  For bacterial conjunctivitis, antibiotic eye drops are often prescribed and is effective.  In some extreme cases, if treatment is delayed, the infection may worsen and cause corneal inflammation and loss of vision.

3. Blephararitis:

Blepharitis is the inflammation of the eyelids, both anterior and exterior of your eyelid structure. 

Interior Blepharitis is often caused by bacteria (staphylococcus) and scalp dandruff.  The oil tear secretion gland (meibomian glands) is often involved which leads to severe dry eye symptoms.  Symptoms of Blepharitis are very similar to Red Dry Eyes, blurry vision, and watery Dry Eyes; red, tired, light sensitivity and often wake up with a crusting of eyelashes.
